Numerous aggressions have been mounted against brick-and-mortar grocery stores by online competitors. But assembling a dish or a meal is a complex syntactic operation which migrates poorly to online shopping. Instead, what if the logistical tools of large distributors were co-opted by small ones? The Everywhere Store imagines that New York’s ubiquitous delis, convenience stores and corner grocers aggregate their surfaces to create a single decentralized food market. By using automated payment methods and collaborative autonomous vehicles, proprietors move convenience shopping to the outermost boundaries of their establishments, freeing the interiors for specialization.
