The Blind Scanner explores and exploits the aesthetic potential of a banal technology, formalizing it, blowing it out of scale, making it an object of contemplation. It is a marriage of contradictions: a scanner which records nothing, a mass-produced consumer device painstakingly handcrafted from raw materials, a soothing keeper of time and a reminder of the ubiquitous presence of surveillance technology.
As the light slides, shadows shift back and forth through the room, and the air vibrates with a low hum.
