Conceived and executed in collaboration with the artist Dorian Gaudin, “Love Actually” explores the technological mediation of contemporary social interaction. The installation exists in both a physical gallery and at an online portal with live video feeds of the device.

Facial expressions of online viewers are captured through their device’s cameras, analyzed, and used to trigger various actions. Two participants connected at the same time each control different mechanisms, creating the potential for one-to-one communcation through the medium of the piece. Unable to see each other directly, each can communicate with the other only through a constrained and opaque mechanical intermediary, making strange faces while imagining those of their unseen counterpart.
